Addictive social media suits against Meta can't include Zuckerberg

The ruling does not clear the Menlo Park company of wrongdoing. Meta Platforms and several other social media companies face ongoing litigation by states and individual plaintiffs in multidistrict litigation accusing the platforms of promoting compulsive online use by young people and concealing its harm.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg will not have to face claims that, as a corporate officer of Meta Platforms Inc., he fraudulently and negligently concealed the harmful impact the company has on young users in two dozen lawsuits, an Oakland federal judge has ruled.

"Plaintiffs' allegations are not sufficient to plausibly allege that Zuckerberg directed the suppression of material information.," U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers wrote in dismissing the claims Thursday. ...
