University to pay $750K to students blocked from campus during COVID
The class of students claimed the school breached its contract by refusing refunds after it prevented them from attending on-site classes. The school denied any contract required on-site teaching but agreed to settle.
A $1.4 million class settlement was preliminarily approved by a federal judge in San Diego for a class of University of San Diego students who sued the school over failed promises of on-campus services during the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020.
According to the proposal, the plaintiffs' counsel estimated the class payout to be about $750,000 after attorney fees and costs, which the judge found was adequate.
