Ban on social media firms contacting kids without consent faces challenge

"The restrictions imposed by California Senate Bill 976 violate bedrock principles of constitutional law and precedent from across the nation," Bradley A. Benbrook of Benbrook Law Group PC wrote in the lawsuit filed by NetChoice LLC.

A technology trade group filed a lawsuit Tuesday against California, arguing that a law that would prohibit social media companies from sending unsolicited notifications to minors without a parent or guardian's consent violates the First Amendment.
