CPPA advances new data collection rules

The proposed rules could "provide regulators with unprecedented visibility into the data and AI governance practices of regulated business," according to one attorney. The public has 45 days to comment on them.

The California Privacy Protection Agency moved a step closer to enforcing new data collection and usage regulations, voting to advance proposed rules at its Friday board meeting. The rules would mandate businesses to submit annual cybersecurity reports and give consumers the right to opt out of automated decision-making systems.
