Judicial Council's 2025 focus: more judges, money, court reporters

Despite Gov. Gavin Newsom appointing new judges at a rapid clip, there were 89 vacancies on superior courts as of Nov. 1.

The Judicial Council said Friday it would attempt to address two persistent issues in the Legislature in 2025: money and court reporters.

"We recommend continuing to seek funding for judgeships overall and particularly for judicial officers in counties with the greatest need," 3rd District Court of Appeal Justice Stacy E. Boulware Eurie told the Judicial Council at its regular meeting.
