
Kathi Vidal, head of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office who was a longtime Silicon Valley intellectual property lawyer before she was confirmed in 2022, announced she will be leaving her job next month and returning to private practice.
An appointee of President Joe Biden, Vidal - who was undersecretary of commerce for intellectual property - is leaving before President-elect Donald Trump takes office Jan. 20. She will be replaced for now by Deputy Director Derrick Brent.
