State's immigrant protections likely to face federal blowback

One expert says Bonta is trying to navigate a "fine line" between helping immigrants who entered illegally and provoking the incoming administration.

Attorney General Rob Bonta is touting a series of meetings he's holding with immigration rights groups in the weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. Bonta's office has also issued legal guidance informing immigrants who entered the country without legal permission of their rights -- including if they are detained by federal immigration authorities.
