U.S. Supreme Court rulings expected to shape electric vehicle future

States don't have standing to sue against EPA allowing California to enforce higher vehicle emission standards than the federal government, but fuel industry companies might be able to mount that challenge, according to two high court rulings in 2024

The most significant litigation likely to determine the future of the electronic vehicle industry in California, and nationwide, occurred in two U.S. Supreme Court decisions this year.

Both are related to California's clean air rules that limit certain emissions, and the influence the state's regulations have throughout the country because of the size of its car and gas market.
