In behind-the-scenes drama before the curtain rises on a stock-drop class action targeting a Silicon Valley tech company, a Central Valley walnut farmer is facing off against a large German investment group over who gets to be lead plaintiff.

As the row intensified, a federal judge in San Jose noted that the walnut farmer is presumptively in the lead, but the German group has raised serious questions about his fitness for that role.
