A millionaire couple sued their former attorney, Charles Smith III of San Mateo, for $6 million, claiming malpractice in civil cases despite him getting their criminal charges dismissed.




A San Mateo attorney who defended a millionaire couple and says he saved them from "a lot of time in jail" is now being sued by them to the tune of $6 million.
Charles J. Smith III said he did not know why he was being sued by real estate managers Terry and Valerie Houghton when he was contacted by the Daily Journal on Thursday.
