California's State Bar and San Diego County Bar Association assert their DEI programs comply with federal law, while the ABA's clerkship initiative faces EEOC scrutiny for alleged discrimination.

The State Bar of California and the San Diego County Bar Association said Monday that a recent Equal Opportunity Commission complaint filed by advocacy groups accusing the American Bar Association of racial discrimination in its Diversity Clerkship Program will have "no impact" on their own diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, initiatives because they are not breaking the law.
