2 classes certified for Apple overtime pay lawsuit

Two classes of plaintiffs have been certified for a lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of undercalculating overtime pay by excluding stock value. The case now moves forward for thousands of workers.

A federal judge in San Francisco certified two classes of plaintiffs, from New York and California, seeking to prove Apple violated state overtime laws and federal rules on including the value of stocks employees earned in calculations of their overtime pay.

At the center of the dispute are the restricted stock units that Apple awards to high performing workers as an incentive to remain with the company and vest up to three years of employment, depending on their titles.
