Bonta challenges Huntington Beach voter ID law in appellate court

The dispute centers on whether the city's charter amendment conflicts with state election laws, even before an ordinance is enacted.

Attorney General Rob Bonta asked an appellate court to vacate a ruling by an Orange County judge that the state's challenge to a Huntington Beach voter ID law is not ripe.

Deputy Attorney General Michael S. Cohen asked the 4th District Court of Appeal to vacate Superior Court Judge Nico A. Dourbetas' November and December orders and rule in the state's favor.
