Union sues state over hiring of private attorneys for Exxon climate case
Union President Tim O'Connor argues the case is not too complex for state-employed lawyers and criticizes the slow pace of litigation. The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal battles over the state's reliance on costly outside counsel.




The union representing attorneys working for the state has sued the State Personnel Board again over hiring outside attorneys. The complaint challenges AB Rob Bonta's hiring of Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein LLP to sue five oil companies in 2023 over climate change statements.
