Former EU ambassador reaches agreement over impeachment testimony costs

The case, centered on an oral agreement between former EU Ambassador Gordon Sondland and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, highlighted the lack of a State Department policy for covering diplomats' legal fees. Before closing arguments, the government agreed to settle under Sondland's original terms. The case will be formally dismissed once payment is made.

Former European Union Ambassador Gordon Sondland and the U.S. government have reached a settlement over attorneys' fees incurred during Sondland's testimony in the 2019 impeachment proceedings against President Trump. The parties have notified the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and will formally dismiss the case once Sondland receives payment.
