Supreme Court rejects GOP states' challenge to California climate lawsuit

A request from 19 Republican-led states sought to block climate-related complaints brought by California and four other states against major oil companies. The decision allows California's case to move forward in state court, where it seeks to hold oil firms accountable for misleading the public about climate change.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a request to file an unusual "original action" by 19 Republican states arguing California and four other states should be blocked from pursuing complaints against oil and gas companies alleging they misled the public about the cause of climate change and the risks of fossil fuels.
