California bill expands civil sexual assault claims, excludes public entities
Republicans on the Assembly Judiciary Committee voiced concerns over AB 250's limited focus and potential costs, while the bill's author explained the decision to exclude public agencies due to financial pressures.




A bill moving through the California Assembly would extend the statute of limitations for private parties in civil sexual assault cases - but not for government entities.
This did not sit well with some Republicans on the Assembly Judiciary Committee. AB 250's author, Assembly Member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, D-Winters, said she wanted to include public entities but was told it was too expensive.
