1st San Francisco Racial Justice Act motion granted, reduces felonies

San Francisco Public Defender wins first Racial Justice Act motion in the county, reducing felonies to misdemeanors after judge finds implicit bias in police testimony, potentially paving the way for more motions.

The San Francisco Public Defender's Office said it won the first motion in the county under the 2021 Racial Justice Act after a judge found a police officer exhibited implicit bias during trial testimony. The judge reduced some felony convictions to misdemeanors as a remedy for discrimination in a gun crime case.
