Judge blocks California social media law, ruling it restricts protected speech

Opponents had branded the law a "Trojan horse" for censoring constitutionally protected speech.

A federal judge in San Jose has granted NetChoice a preliminary injunction against a state law designed to protect children using social media.

In her order on Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman enjoined the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act in its entirety pending the outcome of the free speech challenge against it.
