DOJ backs church in Santa Ana zoning dispute
The U.S. Department of Justice has weighed in on a Santa Ana zoning dispute, arguing the city's restrictions unfairly limit religious assemblies. Anchor Stone Christian Church claims the city unlawfully denied its land use permit, while federal prosecutors assert the zoning code violates the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).





The U.S. Department of Justice stepped into a religious discrimination case in Santa Ana, arguing that the city's zoning restrictions unlawfully limit religious assemblies.
"Zoning practices that unfairly limit assemblies by faith-based groups violate federal law," Joseph T. McNally, acting U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, said in a statement.
