First American wins in decades-old overcharge lawsuit

After 20 years of litigation, a Los Angeles jury ruled in favor of First American Title Insurance Company, rejecting claims of unlawful overcharges in a case over policyholder rates.

In a significant development in a legal battle spanning two decades, a Los Angeles jury delivered a verdict in favor of First American Title Insurance Company against allegations that it unlawfully overcharged policyholders by charging rates that were not in accordance with the rates reported to the California Department of Insurance.

Joel D. Siegel of Dentons in Los Angeles, who represented First American, celebrated this week's ruling in a phone call on Thursday.
