A federal tax evasion case against Fatburger founder Andrew Wiederhorn was thrown into uncertainty after the Justice Department abruptly fired the lead prosecutor just hours after a far-right activist launched a social media campaign targeting him for past anti-Trump posts.

A hearing scheduled for Friday in Los Angeles was called off, and federal officials have declined to explain why Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam P. Schleifer was fired.
