A San Francisco couple sues Uber, claiming the company is liable for a crash due to a driver's low tire tread, raising questions about Uber's responsibility for independent contractors.

A lawsuit filed in San Francisco by a couple against Uber seeks to find the company responsible for the shallow tread of one of its driver's vehicles after it crashed during heavy rainfall, injuring the passengers.

The complaint claims the driver was speeding and the tread depth on the tires was too low. It accuses Uber of failing to enforce safe driving practices.

Uber was contacted for comment but did not respond in time for press.
