Judge's son freezes up during testimony of mother's killing

The son of Orange County Judge Jeffrey M. Ferguson testified Monday that he struggled to remember the night his father fatally shot his mother, but recalled trying to wrestle the gun away. His testimony came as the murder retrial opened with emotional details--and an actual earthquake.

The son of an Orange County judge who witnessed his father kill his mother testified Monday, saying he struggled to remember the events of that night nearly two years ago.

Orange County Deputy District Attorney Seton B. Hunt was questioning Phillip Ferguson about what happened just before the shot when Ferguson froze on the stand.
