Federal judge refuses to lift $5B legal aid order for migrant children

U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin on Tuesday rejected claims that a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision nullified her authority and brushing off calls for her recusal based on past immigration advocacy.

A federal judge in San Francisco on Tuesday refused to lift her order requiring the U.S. government to restore $5 billion in legal aid contracts for unaccompanied migrant children, rejecting arguments from the Trump administration that a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling rendered the order invalid and that she should recuse herself due to past advocacy work.
