Girardi sentencing delayed as judge cites eight-week hospital stay
Tom Girardi, the disbarred trial lawyer convicted of stealing over $15 million in client funds, remains hospitalized following surgery for liver dysfunction and is expected to stay under medical care for another two months. The delay pushes back a planned June 3 sentencing in federal court, where prosecutors are seeking a 14-year term. Judge Josephine Staton has ordered new sealed medical filings to assess Girardi's fitness for incarceration.




Tom Girardi, who was rushed to the hospital for liver disfunction two weeks ago, required surgery that will keep him hospitalized for an additional eight weeks, according to a federal judge's order late Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton, in response to a sealed declaration by an investigator with the Federal Public Defender's office, ordered Girardi's attorneys to file sealed medical documents to her by May 28.
