In praise of the industry-focused legal practice

New women lawyers - and indeed all new lawyers - are often encouraged to think of their future practices in terms of legal categories: transactional; litigation; corporate; administrative; criminal; appellate. But the most rewarding careers for women lawyers, I would argue, develop with a focus on particular industries. Whether it be technology, energy, agriculture, health care or a particular consumer product, the lawyer who knows an industry well will always find demand for their work.
