Attorneys say one family searched for over a year, not knowing their loved one had already died. Records show state regulators had repeatedly warned Mercy San Juan Medical Center.

A major Sacramento hospital misplaced dozens of bodies over a period of years, according to allegations in an amended complaint.

Last August, family members of Jessie Peterson sued Dignity Health, saying one of its hospitals failed to notify them or file a death certificate for over a year after she died. The family's attorney now says subsequent discovery has revealed that this was not an unusual occurrence at Mercy San Juan Medical Center.
