9th Circuit strikes down California's ammo background check law
The ruling affirms a permanent injunction issued by a San Diego judge known for repeatedly finding California gun laws unconstitutional, and has already prompted online retailers to resume direct ammunition sales to Californians.




California's ammunition background check regime, which requires firearm owners to complete a background check before each ammunition purchase, violates the Second Amendment, a federal appellate panel held on Thursday.
Voting 2-1, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal panel affirmed a district judge's grant of a permanent injunction to end the state's first-of-its-kind statute.
