The California Supreme Court on Wednesday swiftly rejected a Republican-backed attempt to block Gov. Gavin Newsom's congressional redistricting initiative, marking the second such challenge dismissed in less than a week.
If successful, Proposition 50 would suspend the California Citizens Redistricting Commission's authority to draw congressional maps until after the 2030 Census. This would allow Democrats to squeeze out up to five more seats through gerrymandering.
