Geragos asks L.A. Superior Court to strike $100,000 verdict; judge nudges parties toward deal

Seeking to overturn a $100,000 noneconomic-damages award in Franklin v. Geragos, Geragos' counsel filed a pocket brief arguing no causation and a statute-of-limitations defense. Judge Steve Cochran pressed both sides to pursue an agreement rather than risk a reportable judgment.

Mark Geragos has asked the Los Angeles County Superior Court to vacate a $100,000 jury verdict won by a plaintiff who alleged Geragos ruined his Nike sponsorship by conspiring with convicted lawyer Michael Avenatti to extort the company.

Geragos' attorney filed a pocket brief on Wednesday asking for a new judgment for Geragos and against the plaintiff - a prospect that Judge Steve Cochran seemed to regard with caution.
