Judge rejects Anthropic's bid to dismiss music labels' AI copyright suit
A San Jose federal judge declined to dismiss key claims in a lawsuit brought by major music labels against the developer of AI chatbot Claude, while Reddit continues its separate complaint against the company following Anthropic's $1.5 billion settlement with authors and publishers.

Anthropic PBC got preliminary approval of its $1.5 billion settlement with authors and publishers from a San Francisco district judge last month, but two other complaints -- by Reddit Inc. and the Concord Music Group Inc., a group of music industry labels -- are pending in the Northern District of California.
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Eumi K. Lee in San Jose rejected a motion by the company behind AI chatbot Claude to dismiss the bulk of the lawsuit by the music labels.
