The former chief of staff to Gov. Gavin Newsom was charged Friday with diverting political campaign funds for personal use while working as a political consultant.
Dana Williamson, 53, of Carmichael, was arrested on a 23-count federal indictment alleging bank and wire fraud, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, filing false tax returns, and making false statements.
Williamson served as Newsom's chief of staff for much of 2023 and 2024.
