9th Circuit reverses judge, orders arbitration in janitors' wage case

The panel held that Township's multistate operations brought its contracts within the FAA's scope, directing the lower court to enforce arbitration.

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Thursday reversed a San Francisco judge's refusal to compel arbitration in a wage-and-hour class action against janitorial firm Township Building Services Inc.

A three-judge panel ruled in an unpublished decision that the Federal Arbitration Act, or FAA, governs the workers' arbitration agreements and that the agreements are not substantively unconscionable under California law.
