Judge denies class bid over Thomas Fire smoke, ash claims
A Los Angeles judge refused to certify a proposed class of homeowners seeking damages from Southern California Edison for widespread smoke and ash from the 2017 Thomas Fire, finding plaintiffs' expert evidence inadmissible.
A Los Angeles County judge denied class certification for homeowners and others seeking to hold Southern California Edison liable for smoke and ash damage from the 2017 Thomas Fire in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
The case will proceed only on individual claims and be transferred to Ventura County Superior Court, where certain expert issues may be revisited at trial for individual plaintiffs.
