Civil suit stay bid denied as convicted killer of CashApp founder pursues new trial
A San Francisco judge denied Nima Momeni's request to stay a wrongful death suit during pending matters around his conviction for murder, finding no real self-incrimination risk and warning a delay would unfairly prejudice the family of the late CashApp founder, Bob Lee.
A civil lawsuit between the family of slain tech executive Bob Lee and Nima Momeni, the man convicted of his murder, will continue at the same time as the criminal proceedings after a judge denied a motion to stay on Wednesday.
Momeni, who is representing himself from San Francisco County Jail, is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of second-degree murder in December 2024 for stabbing to death Lee, founder of CashApp, on a city street in April 2023.
