San Francisco federal judge orders agencies to rehire workers fired during shutdown
Senior U.S. District Judge Susan Y. Illston said she would grant a union's request to void reductions-in-force imposed during the government shutdown, ordering agencies to rehire affected workers.
A San Francisco federal judge said Wednesday she would grant a preliminary injunction ordering several U.S. agencies to rehire employees they fired during the government shutdown.
Senior U.S. District Judge Susan Y. Illston, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, said at the end of a hearing that her order would grant a motion filed by the American Federation of Government Employees so that the reductions-in-force, known as RIFs, would be void.
