Assembly speaker seeks pause in discovery in former aide's misconduct lawsuit

Motion argues the case could be narrowed or dismissed as the court weighs challenges to claims against Rivas, his brother, and the Legislature.

Attorneys for Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, asked a federal judge to halt discovery in a workplace misconduct lawsuit brought by his former communications aide. The case has drawn attention because of its unusual claims and legal trajectory -- as well as its allegations against the body created to prevent workplace harassment in the Legislature.
