Angela C. C. Viramontes, former branch chief of the Federal Public Defender's Office in Riverside, was sworn in Tuesday as a U.S. magistrate judge for California's Central District.
Viramontes will serve in the court's Eastern Division, succeeding former Magistrate Judge Shashi H. Kewalramani. Her appointment fills one of 24 full-time magistrate judge positions in a district serving over 19.3 million residents in seven Southern California counties.
