Former deputy federal public defender sworn in as US magistrate judge
Angela Viramontes was the Riverside branch chief of the Federal Public Defender's Office for the Central District of California.
Angela C. C. Viramontes, former branch chief of the Federal Public Defender's Office in Riverside, was sworn in Tuesday as a U.S. magistrate judge for California's Central District.
Viramontes will serve in the court's Eastern Division, succeeding former Magistrate Judge Shashi H. Kewalramani. Her appointment fills one of 24 full-time magistrate judge positions in a district serving over 19.3 million residents in seven Southern California counties.
