Uber asked a magistrate judge to sanction a plaintiffs' lawyer for allegedly misusing confidential MDL discovery, prompting skepticism, sharp questioning, and warnings that sanctions remain possible after related injury lawsuits.

Uber's attorneys sought removal Tuesday of an attorney from the plaintiffs' steering committee in a massive multi-district lawsuit over allegations that the company's drivers sexually assault passengers.

The company alleges Bret D. Stanley, senior counsel at Johnson Law Group in Houston, used confidential information disclosed in discovery for a different case, violating a protective order.
