Douglas C. Phimister, 1941 - 2025
Judge with sharp wit, novelty ties, helped create drug court
Douglas C. Phimister, who served as an El Dorado County Superior Court judge from 2002 to 2014 and later sat by assignment, died Nov. 17, 2025, at his home in Shingle Springs surrounded by family and friends. He was 84.
Phimister, a longtime El Dorado County attorney before taking the bench, is credited with helping create and oversee a drug court program that expanded treatment options within the criminal justice system and became a standout effort statewide. Retired El Dorado Co...
