Jury awards Applied Medical $381M in antitrust trial against Medtronic

Los Angeles jurors concluded Medtronic used bundled hospital contracts to maintain a monopoly over advanced bipolar energy devices, delivering a $381.7 million verdict to rival Applied Medical.

A Los Angeles jury awarded more than $381 million to Applied Medical Resources Corp. in a high-stakes federal antitrust trial accusing Medtronic of monopolistic contracting practices involving surgical devices.

The jury unanimously found that Medtronic violated the Sherman Act for monopolization, attempted monopolization, and unreasonable restraint of trade, and the Clayton Act for unlawful exclusive dealing and the California Cartwright Act, awarding the plaintiff $381,705,005. <...
