Huntington Beach seeks U.S. Supreme Court review of voter ID ruling

Huntington Beach's voter-approved charter amendment requiring voter ID was struck down by the 4th District Court of Appeal. The City Council now petitions the U.S. Supreme Court for review.

Huntington Beach's City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to review appellate rulings striking down the city's voter-approved charter amendment requiring voter identification at the polls.

The 4th District Court of Appeal held in consolidated cases that the amendment violates the Equal Protection Clause and is preempted by state law. The California Supreme Court denied review, leaving intact the ruling that access to the polls is governed...
