LA jury awards $8.8M for odor that blanketed city after fire

After a week's deliberation and a trial that began in November, a Los Angeles jury awarded a verdict of $8.8 million to share among 24 residents in and around Carson for the foul odor that emanated from a warehouse fire.

A Los Angeles County jury on Friday returned a $8.8 million verdict in favor of 24 Carson-area residents who sued Prologis Inc. and its tenant businesses over a foul-smelling "rotten egg" odor that allegedly blanketed the area after a 2021 warehouse fire.

A $2.8 million compensatory award was split among the plaintiffs, with individual recoveries ranging from roughly $43,000 to as much as $200,000, in some instances.
