Franciscan Friars reach $20M settlement in abuse bankruptcy case
The Franciscan Friars of California agreed to a $20 million Chapter 11 settlement establishing a trust for about 95 sexual abuse claimants, with payments funded by the friars, affiliates and insurance proceeds, pending court approval.
A $20 million settlement has been reached in the Franciscan Friars of California sexual abuse cases after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The settlement with the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, filed on Feb. 3, will establish a trust for some 95 sexual abuse claimants, their counsel, Lowenstein Sandler LLP, announced Monday in a news release.
