Federal social media addiction suits likely head to jury trial
A federal judge in Oakland indicated lawsuits by states and school districts alleging social media platforms fuel teen addiction will proceed to jury trial, rejecting summary judgment and allowing key design defect claims.
Both lawsuits in Oakland federal court against tech giants Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat over their roles in teen social media addiction appear headed to trial.
U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers on Wednesday told representatives from the states suing the four tech giants that she anticipates the case will move forward. It is currently at the summary judgment stage.
