A California appellate court affirmed a landmark $51 million verdict against Avon Products Inc., concluding a hard-fought legal battle over asbestos-contaminated talcum powder.

In an opinion filed on Wednesday, the 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld the judgment awarded to the family of Rita-Ann Chapman, who said she developed terminal mesothelioma after decades of using the company's cosmetic products.
