Report: California courts log 1.75 million remote hearings as satisfaction tops 90%

A new Judicial Council report shows remote proceedings remain widely used across California's 58 superior courts, with high satisfaction rates and $77.8 million spent on technology in a single year. The data comes as lawmakers extend authorization for virtual hearings through 2027.

California's 58 superior courts conducted nearly 1.75 million remote proceedings between September 2024 and August 2025, with user satisfaction exceeding 90%, according to a report the Judicial Council of California will consider at its Feb. 20 meeting.

The report provides the most comprehensive update to date on how courts are using and funding remote technology as statutory authorization for virtual proceedings continues through Jan. 1, 2027.
