Juror hospitalization pauses bellwether social media addiction trial

Rather than excuse a juror midtrial, Superior Court Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl granted a one-day recess in the case alleging Meta and Google designed apps to addict and harm children.

The fifth day of evidence presentation in the first bellwether social media addiction trial was paused Tuesday after a juror was hospitalized over the Presidents' Day weekend.

Rather than replace that panelist with an alternate, Superior Court Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl recessed the case for a day to give the juror a chance to return, finding the brief delay would not derail the trial schedule and was the fairest approach.
