Kaiser sues insurers over $556M Medicare settlement coverage dispute
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan sued 10 insurers, alleging wrongful denial of coverage for most of its $556 million Medicare fraud settlement and seeking to recover $95 million in policy limits.
Kaiser Foundation Health Plan has filed a federal lawsuit against a group of insurers it had liability coverage with -- including AIG, Chubb and Allianz - claiming they refuse to cover most of a $556 million settlement over alleged Medicare fraud.
In January, Kaiser settled its lawsuit with the U.S. Department of Justice that claimed it improperly inflated Medicare Advantage payments between 2009 and 2018. Kaiser denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
